MLK Day of Service at Historic Fair Hill
Note that this is an all outdoor activity so dress accordingly. Historic Fair Hill is a 5 acre historical burial ground in North Philadelphia where notable abolitionists and women's rights activists are buried. It is currently a historic park with community gardens. On MLK Day, volunteers will clean up trash around the perimeter of the property, move downed tree branches, and if weather permits, work on the gardens. Children are welcome if accompanied by an adult. The activity starts at approximately 10AM. At noon, volunteers will gather by a fire to drink hot cocoa, roast marshmallows, sing Freedom hymns, and read aloud excerpts from some of Dr. King's speeches. The burial ground is located at 2900 Germantown Ave. between Indiana and Cambria Streets. The gates to the grounds are on Cambria and Indiana. Parking is available on Cambria, Indiana and 9th Streets. The 23 bus stops at the burial ground. Call 215-593-6795 with any questions.
