Grands as Parents

MISSION STATEMENT

 

It is the mission of Grands As Parents, Inc., Grandparents supporting Grandparents / Relative Caregivers to give their families a quality of life that every child deserves.

Our motto, “Help A Child Keep A Smile”

 

IT IS EASIER TO BUILD A CHILD THAN TO REPAIR AN ADULT

 

 

Advocacy:

  • Taking the form of a support and advocacy group for the rights of the family.
  • Recognizing the needs of relative caregivers.
  • Helping relative caregivers become more visible.
  • Making the necessary changes in our society for the preservation of children.
  • Working hard to ensure that children grow fruitfully into adulthood.
  • Collaborating with various community partners.
  • Providing the following services: stress management; crisis management; home and community safety; social, recreational, and cultural events; establishing working relationships with various community resources; workshops addressing the issues of children and teens at risk; sharing resources with families caring for special needs children.

Referrals: legal services, human services, housing, food, clothing, stress management, crisis 

                   management, home and community safety, children and teens at risk

 

Emergency Resources: Community Clothing Closet and Food Pantry

 

Youth Programs:

  • The V.I.P. (Very Important People) Program addresses the special issues of
    young adults from 12 to 18 years of age use dance, drama, art, and
    computers. The young people work on self-esteem, anger management

health awareness, readiness for employment, and leadership skills.

  • Oh, So Beautiful is an eight-month self-esteem program for young people from

10 to 15 years of age offered in cooperation with a Crime Prevention Specialist
from the Temple University Police Department.

Partnerships: Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Quaker City Alumnae Chapter, Toy Library Youth Program; The Art Sanctuary; The French International School of Philadelphia; and The Church Of The Advocate.
